Getting hold of dotNET 2005.

Hi. I got the Express version (Minus the Help - MSDN. Because of downloading 'difficulties')

I LIKE it, and I WANT dotNET 2005. It may sound silly, but how do I get it What do I ask for (I am not 'up' with all the modern computer jargon - for reasons not needed - so I am somewhat bewildered.

I have looked on the net but I have only seen one for sale; and that was for over £1000.

I can only afford the cheapest. So can I have some guidance, please.

A 'sort of' what, where, how, when

Sincerely Yours, AliBong.

Express editions will remain free, microsoft announced that some time ago. It has really been a success for them, with more than 5 million downloads if I recall it correctly.

For downloading the MSDN part you can do it by going into control panel/add remove programs and choose to change the installation of an express edition. This will give you option to install msdn express.

You are only eligible to the upgrade price if you have one of the products listed on this page.

Visual Studio costs some money. The standard edition is the cheapest and recommended price starts around $299 US (£201).

1000 Was you looking at the subscriptions They are more expensive.

Usually the express editions are enough for non-professional development. I use only the express edition at home at they have really not limited me to have fun and be productive.

    Thanks for answer, Andreas.

I am 'devoted' to 2005 now, so..........

    1. Am I right in assuming that I can carry on with the Express version for longer than this year

    2. If yes, I must get the MSDN for it. I can't be sure of starting the download again because I have been told that my server cuts off connection after 2 hours! Any advice, please [ I could have done with it earlier.]

    3. I have looked around the net and found this:

MS VS 2005 Standard Ed. Upgrade package - 1 user - CD etc. £152.

I don't know what is exactly meant by Upgrade Package, but would that be OK

That offer has probably gone by now, but, hopefully, there should be more. Yes

    Cheers. D.
