I also found msvcr80.dll in the same place you did. But what did you do next Where did you copy it to Did you copy it to a common location where all the files that are looking for this dll can find it or did you copy it to each location that it was missing from
I am not a developer either, and this is all very new to me but I am trying to push my way through all this so I can start playing.
One solution helps me actually. uninstalling .net frame work 1.1, 2.0, if any beta - everything. then just update your computer with .net framework 2.0. (not beta...ensure).
Finally! This is exactly the answer I wanted (and expected) but needed someone with a bit more smarts than me to confirm. I had already sent email to Symantec about this issue in November and have recieved no response. I will send another.
After installing .Net 2.0, I Ran Norton WinDoctor and got 5 errors about a missing dll, it was MSVCR80.dll. I have since uninstalled .Net 2.0 because of those errors and trying to make sure that my future install of Visual C# 2005 Express Edition would happen without problems. So, needless to say I am very interested in the responses to this issue.
I want to clarify one extra thing on this thread. Norton WinDoctor incorrectly shows that msvcr80.dll is missing. This DLL is correctly installed in WinSxS by the .NET installer, but then WinDoctor fails to find it.
If you own Norton WinDoctor, please contact them and ask them to fix this issue with their product.

I too am here because Norton flagged these files, and I also recenly installed .Net 2.0.
The difference is that I am not a developer and am puzzled why this VC++ file is completely missing, and if that means anything to a regular Joe like me. Did .Net eat the file, or was I missing it all along and do I need to worry
(later) Never mind. I found the dll in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_more_gobbledy_goop... and re-running Norton, no errors flagged.
