How to turn OFF remote debugging. (I.e. Unable to initiate DCOM communication)

Hi,

I'm using Visual Studio 2005 on 64-bit XP.

Whenever I try and debug anything in Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Basic express, I receive the following error:

Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging.

The Visual Studio debugger cannot connect to the remote computer. Unable to initiate DCOM communication. Please see Help for assistance.

"Help" inevitablly takes me to the same Microsoft page about setting up remote debugging. Useless, since taking the advice has no effect. I can't even determine what machine it's trying to connect to since this isn't listed in an obvious way on the property pages.

The fact of the matter is, "I don't *WANT* remote debugging." I want to turn the bloody thing OFF and debug locally.

Does anyone know how to do this

FYI, this works fine on my other 64-bit system, so I'm fairly sure it's not an OS specific problem.

Thanks in advance,
Ian

    Ken,

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately it didn't work.

You were right thought. The service wasn't started.

I changed the setting to "Automatic" and manually started the service. Tried again. Same error. I rebooted. After rebooting, the service started correctly, but I still get the error.

Look in your services there should be a visual studio debugger service. Make sure it is started.
