Package Load Failure

Hello there,

I have uninstalled all Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 components as described, none were listed. I installed VC# 2005 Express edition today, and when loading it i get the following message:

Package Load Failure

Package 'Visual Studio Explorers and Designers Package' has failed to load properly (GUID ={8D8529D3-625D-4496-8354-3DA6630Ecc1B}). Please contact package vendor for assistance.

This also shos up for Visual Studio Common IDE Package too.

Please help,
Simon.,

    Hi,
Could you try running the uninstall tool from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/ LinkID=47598 If you are still seeing Package Load Failures try running the troubleshooting tool at http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/10/27.aspx - Item number 2.

Thanks for the help - I was having all the above problems (no doubt as a result of residues from previous installations of the beta versions) - uninstalling the visual studio files from the previous installation got things workingBig Smile

    I found it!

I found in some blogg that it could be something with the files in C:\WINDOWS\assembly. I looked there and found duplicates of some of the Microsoft.VisualStudio files. I the checked the properties of some of those files and found that some of them were old. I uninstalled these and now the program runs perfectly.

I have exactly the same problem but with Visual Web Developer. I have tried reinstalling and used the tool on the blogg but I still get the Package Load Failure.

    Hello,

I have the same error - "Package Loading Error".  I have done the same as other suggested. I have gone to windows\assembly and  removed all duplicate names with versions like 2.0.0.0 and 2.0.x.x  and also some other duplicates assemblies. I have deleted more than a dozen or so.

Then it started working fine.   I am extremely  greateful to those who have done this and let others know it. Because i have already installed and uninstalled it a few time before getting this solution.

Thank you guys once again. And other watch these very annonying problems.

What about then those UNINSTALL programs. If they leave assemblies then what good are they

    Thanks for your reply,

I tried the links and after looking at the blog, used all of the tools that were listed and all reported no installations of VS 2005 etc. But when I install C# 2005 express, I still get the same errors. Sad

    Thanks
    Simon.

Yeah finally a solution! I selected all the Microsoft.VisualStudio files in Windows\assembly directory. Selected uninstall, got a message to say a number were required and voila. C# express is working!!
