Hi, as i was trying to delete this version of Visual Basic 2005 Express, the uninstaller froze at 30%. So what i did was CTRL+ALT+DEL and ended the task, but now when im trying to uninstall it says: "
The Windows Installer package:
C:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\micosoft visual basic 2005 express edition - enu\vs_setup.msi
could not be opened
Choose Retry to try again. Choose Cancel for exit setup.
[ Retry] [Cancel]
Now I cant install other versions because they give a error looking like: "Could not validate programstate"
Does anybody have a solution for this

PS: I've already tried the uninstall tool, but since it's not a beta it couldn't find any uninstallable products

Hello VisualManiac.
Im new to using this post, but from what Ive seen, it seems like a good place to perhaps ask a question. And hopefully, you seem like the kind of person Im hoping can help me.
Here goes k :
Im trying to install the Visual Web Developer 2005 Express from MS, but I keep getting this retarded error:
The Windows Installer Package: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\local settings\temp\SIT10238.tmp\vs_setup.ms_ could not be opened.
And the installation just stops, with no helpful resources attached.
Anyways, posted in one last vain attempt to salvage any hopes of a resurrection in my relationship with microsoft products.
Thankx,
javapilot

There error message you got indicates that something is not right with the current installation of your VS product. You need to fix this installation before you can uninstall it. It is absurd, but this is how it works. To repair the install navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Microsoft...Express Edition. (This is mentioned in a post above.) In this folder find the setup MSI file and run it to repair the installation.
Now make sure that you register your Express product with Microsoft. I don't know if this really applied, as I never got a registration key or anything, but I read many posts saying that registering was important for successful removal. Start the Express product and go to Help->Register Product.... Follow the steps on the webpage and complete registration process. Once complete shut down the Express product.
Go to Control Panel->Add Remove programs. First remove the MSDN 2005 Express or whatever its called. Once its done remove the Sql Sever Express products starting with Sql Server 2005, followed by Sql Server 2005 Native Client. The remaining Sql Server items in the programs list have now also been removed but the list doesn't refresh, no big deal. NOW you can remove the Visual Studio Express product. It shouldn't hang this time, at least it didn't for me. Now you should be good. You can optionally also uninstall the MSXML 6.0 component if desired. Good luck.
