Visio for Enterprise Architects 2005 does not like Bold?

I have an issue with Visio for Enterprise Architects 2005 where it takes all of my non-null fields and changes them to non-bold text and only bolds the first primary key. Anyone have any ideas to fix this

Josh, thank you for your answer. This is indeed what I have done since it does not seem that I can have both versions running on my pc. I have trouble though with the fact that an item considered a feature and that is present in any DB table structure made it through QA.

    Hi Bjorn,

The problem was fixed and released on August 2006 (see KB 921209, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/921209/en-us). Please, contact the customer support to obtain the hotfix.

    Best Regards,

    Josh,

Is the bug fix available now for this issue Where can I get the latest Service Pack for Visio for Enterprise Architects 2005. The build number for my VEA is 11.4301.6360.

Ian I understand what it is for, perhaps you misunderstand my issue or perhaps I did not explain it thoroughly enough. I had Visio 2003 pro installed and then installed Visio for Enterprise Architects 2005 to take advantage of the forward engineering. Then all of my non-null fields with the exception of my first primary key were not bold. < xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I'm having a problem as well.  I upgraded to the new VEA 2k5 and now changing the columns to NULL or NOT NULL does not change the bold back and forth.  For example, if I create a new database diagram, create a new table create some columns and change them no not null  The column names are NOT automatically changed to bold as they were w/ VEA 2k.  I think this is what the gentleman before was trying to say.  Whether you have them NULL or not the bold isn't changed.

    Hello Bjorn,

We have a team member investigating this. We'll post as soon as we have an answer. Thanks!

    Kind of works,
    Apply hot fix.
    Refresh the model.
Edit a column in each table (eg. flip the null on/off).

  • SteveKirchner

This behavior is intentional as it allows users to see which columns are required and which can be null just by looking at the diagram, without referring to the Database Properties tool window. I haven't worked on this code but I don't believe there is a way to disable the functionality.

I  believe part of the upgrade process will create the new behavior for your existing diagrams, so even though your fields may have had different text formatting in Visio 2003, once you've upgraded to VEA 2005 you get the new formatting with the bold fields as you've described. I don't think there's a way to turn it off.

If I'm still not understanding your question correctly perhaps you could include a screenshot showing what it is you're seeing and what you'd like to see in its place

Is there a way I could have access to the fix you have now rather than waiting for the service pack   The other option is to uninstall VEA 2k5, uninstall VS 2k5, reinstall VS 2k3, reinstall VEA 2k3.  A 6 hour process I don't have time to do.  Second of all, the core which VEA 2k5 is based off of (visio 2k3) does not have the problem.  It works fine.

    Thanks,

    I have the same problem.

I specifically bought the Premium version of MSDN pack with Visual studio to get the enterprice architect version of visio, and this just really bugs me off.

Its now been a year since one of your developers wrote that it will be adressed in the next patch, so shouldnt that patch be made available

    Thanks

    Bjorn

    Jacob,
It is not our policy to release patches in this manner.  I know this bug is troublesome, but we won't be able to release a fix until we do a major code integration with the rest of Visio 2003.  We shipped with their SP1 bits, but the issue was resolved for their SP2.  By way of workaround, is it possible to use the column view in the Database Properties window
Finally, you should be able to uninstall VEA 2005 and install Visio 2003 without changing your Visual Studio install.  Is there a reason this is not an option

  • MartinPare

    Hi Anatoly,

    Thanks for the answer.

When will the hotfix be put together for a service pack. Im not sure that I want to use a support ticket just to get a bug fixed Or is this how it is supposed to be working

Or can i just email support@microsoft.com or something like that, and they will send me the hotfix

    Thanks for your help anyway.

The behavior you are seeing is a known product issue with Visio for Enterprise Architects 2005.  We encountered the issue late in the product cycle, and were not able to address it on time, since the issue came from the core visio rendering engine.  We have a fix ready for the bug though, and we will address the problem in our next Service Pack.
