I tried to install TFS using the instructions
on the final stage (server install) i get this error message:

Error 28938.TFServerStatusValidator: Calling the Team Foundation Server Registration Web service failed with 401 HTTP Unauthorized status.
Try installing again. If the problem persists, verify that Internet Information Services, Windows SharePoint Services, and ASP.NET are
configured correctly and that ASP. NET v2.0 Web Service Extensions are allowed.

I am getting the same error.
All IIS settings are configured to Ver 2.0
I am trying to instal on a single server.
I changed the default port to
VSTF_WEBSITE_PORT=8081
I havent clicked cancel on the error pop up.
I am unable to locate the Log file.
Please advice.

if you want to change the port number of TFS do it manually by changing it on IIS settings (right click on the site in IIS settings - administrative tools), also change it on web.config of the site and in the registry (HKCU --> software -->microsoft)

Could you send us information from your setup log (in your temp directory, named VSMSI*.log) from where this error occurs The easiest way to find it is to look at the log file when the error pops up, before you cancel.
The log file will include the command-line that was run as well as the output. This should give us some more information. Also, you can copy the command-line from the log file and manually run it to see what the result is.

i found the problem
i tried to change the port number of TFS before install (in the msi ini file)
it didnt work
i changed it back to 8080 and installed again and its working now
now i'm trying to manually change the port number because the port 8080 is not available (I stoped the service on this port)
any idea how to do it
