MSDN Upgrade clarification

After reading some posts and blog entries, I'm a little more confused as to the move from MSDN subscriptions to the new Team System entries.

Specifically this blog post:

It makes it seem like the software and MSDN subscriptions are being separated.

If you have an MSDN subscription now and it gets upgraded to one of the Team System products, is the Team System licensed to you as long as you keep your subscription current (like MSDN is now) or are we getting a full copy of Team System that we can still use even if we decide we want to unsubscribe from MSDN after the year   Or is there even a non-subscription based version of Team System

Thanks for the clarification.  I guess I never really "got it" even after reading the stuff MSDN sent.  This clears it up nicely.

Bottom line, once you purchase Team System you have a license in perpetuity for as long as you own it. It is not limited by the duration of the accompanying MSDN subscription.

In the past, you purchased a subscription and it came with Visual Studio. With th launch of Visual Studio 2005, the accompanying MSDN Premium Subscription provides Software Assurance and gives you access to development licenses for most Microsoft server products, a licensed copy of Microsoft Office that can be used at work and at home, and access to any future releases of Visual Studio during the life of your subscription. This is why current MSDN Universal subscribers at the time of launch will automatically be eligible for a role-based edition of Visual Studio or a low-cost upgrade to Team Suite.
