Some frequently asked questions...
Q: I am an MSDN Universal Subscriber; why can't I see any of the role-based products or Team Suite in the MSDN Subscriber Downloads Center
A: You have not yet submitted a transition request. You must transition from MSDNU to one of the role-based products or upgrade to the Suite. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions for more information.
Q: How long does the transition request take
A: For a retail subscriber it will take 24-48 hours from transition choice to access the new level/role. For a Volume Licensing admin to assign a role choice and then the user to get download access should be nearly instantaneous.
Q: If I install Team Suite after installing VS Pro, do I need to uninstall VS Pro
A: No, the two products live side-by-side. There is only one devenv.exe and it will launch the higher SKU. In this case, Suite is launched.
Q: Can I upgrade from Team Suite trial to the full version of Team Suite
A: No, you must uninstall the Team Suite trial before installing the full version.
Q: If I use the Team Suite trial, what happens if I then install a role-based product
A: The Suite trial will continue to launch since it is considered the higher SKU. The trial edition will need to be uninstalled before you can use a role-based product.
Q: I am a Microsoft partner. Can someone please tell me what is going on
A: Partner program benefits will be communicated through your partner channels. In the meantime, you can see the most recent communication from the partner team here: https://partner.microsoft.com/US/40018086 PS=3. We're hearing your feedback and I will personally relay your comments to the appropriate individuals.
Thanks,
Ajay

What happens when the trial expires? Where is Team Suite? How do I upgrade? Partners?

From that whitepaper, it shows that we will NOT be receiving VS Team System. I'm frustrated that the Partner team can not get their act together and let us, as paying customers, know exactly what we are receiving so I can budget accordingly. I'm aggravated that we seem to not be getting Team System, even though I was told on numerous occassions that we were....straight from Partner Support.
Right now, as of November 2nd, 11AM CST, I can't log into MSDN Subscriber Downloads, as it says my Subscription Benefits have expired, when I know my Partnership agreement is currently valid. Ideas

Did anyone get a definitive answer here Are Empower ISV's just left out in the cold
It is realy a problem to have totally bought into the MS world and drunk the "kool aid" and now find out things have shifted out from under us.

Hang on, hang on, in another post (the FAQ) you say MSDNU subscribers (who've got their subscription via their partnership status) cannot upgrade to any of the team editions, only the edition for developers.
We've been beta testing, found we would like to use the test edition, reinstalled windows on the machines, and now are stuck since our partnership status hasn't yet been transitioned, am having to use the '4 testers' trial, and cannot find the load test controller and agent software. Where is the load test controller and agent software

And this being the case just how do I remove all the project files and downsize sourcesafe which incidentally doesn't sound as if it will support continous parallel development - according to MSDN http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp url=/library/en-us/dnvs05/html/VSTmSysvsVSS.asp
Maybe we just go elsewhere Its not a case of being ungrateful, we did exactly what MS wanted us to, we bought into the tool set, gave up our others are working hard towards certification having looked carefully at the roadmaps, and then you completely total our own development plans.

Yeah, I also just discovered this after waiting to get an upgrade license key to put in the VS Team Suite installer. (Yes, it's right there on the "Visual Studio 2005 Setup - Maintenance Page" window. It says, "Upgrade to Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite".) I foolishly waited to get a key because I didn't want to waste time uninstalling the VS Team Suite trial and then reinstalling the same thing. Apparently Microsoft, in its infinite capacity for disinformation and disorganization, has decided to waste even more of it's customers' time than it had previously with their totally confusing and screwed up release of VSTS.

I am with a Certified Partner with the ISV competency. When I sign on to MSDN I do not see the Team Developer Edition. MSDN said I needed to speak to the Partner program group. The partner program group don't know anything about it and have advised me to wait until launch day.
Is the Team Developer edition available now and should ISV Certified Partners be able to see it
Thanks,
Brendan

We're also a partner with ISV Competency. Maybe Microsoft needs to get evaluated on its own "compentency"
.

But, we are able to download the Team Suite Trial Edition from MSDN as well as the Team Foundation Server Beta 3 refresh, so I'd suggest you contact the partner program regarding your MSDN subscription.
The e-mail I received back from the partner program in response to my question about the developer edition (which is what we're supposed to receive according to the documentation) was:
---------------------------------
Hello Bruce,
This is in response to your e-mail regarding the Visual Studio Team Developer edition.
The Media supplied will not be found on the download site, as it is mailed in physical media format (CD-ROM) to your listed shipping location. If you have not heat received the physical media it should be shipped to you with your next monthly mailer. We apologize for any confusion.
If there is anything else we can do for you, please let us know. Thank you for contacting Microsoft.
--------------------------
Hopefully this at least will be true. I'm just going to install the trial version, since it will get me going and go through the uninstall and re-install as noted in the post.
Ain't it great to be a valued partner of Microsoft

In short, Team Suite contains all the functionality found in all 3 Team Editions.
MSDNU subscribers can upgrade at no cost to ONE of the Team Editions, or pay an additional upgrade fee to get the Suite.

I have the client I'm developing for on site today - I really wish I'd never begun this in beta 2 now. Its a big program to go backwards on. I remember when the first version came out and I was working for a large software house, and we too made the decision to build on a beta. It went perfectly to plan and hence was the reasoning behind my current decision. Fat lot of good that experience and reading the product roadmaps has done me!
Disillusioned is what I am!
