Does VSTS come with Borland CRM or is it an additional cost - did Borland ever get around to releasing it too Also if it's an additional cost how much Can you do requirements management in VSTS without it
thanks for your feedback, these are why they have been released as starter-kits for simple integration, and will not be touted as requirment management solutions. The largest integrators into VSTS for RM/RG are Borland and Serena and have fantastic existing solutions which now extend VSTS into BA space. We also have been in dicussion with many others as well, and expect further partnerships shortly.
We are planning to demo this at VSLive early next week, and then post the two kits to the VSTS MSDN site later that week. I will post a reply to this when it goes up.
During the launch of VS2005, we showed CaliberRM integration with TFS, extending the team explorer hierarchy to show all RM requirements and being able to edit them within the VS IDE.We do expect their release shortly after the RTM of TFS, as they are now just waiting for final code.
As per RM within VSTS, we have a number of great starter kit options which are about to be released, including We a Starter Kit that leverages Word and VSTO and SQL2005 and Team Foundation Server for the creation of requirements. It supports linking requirements, versioning requirements, requirement re-use, and creates RequirementWork Items in TFS.
Further to this, we have also createdlightweight InfoPath/Word Integration Starter kit which allows you to capture Requirements within Word/InfoPath forms, synch them to TFS, link work items, and synch them back to Word/InfoPath.
Both these starter kits will be shortly available at the VSTS msdn site, and will both be free downloads
Borland has not released the integration with CaliberRM, mainly because TFS is still in Beta and changes might need to be made at the time of release.
You can do a very, very barebones version of requirements management through workitem customization or through ms project customization. It certainly won't be anywhere near as complete as a standalone requirement tool.
CaliberRM does not come with VSTS.
As for pricing, I'd check with Borland, but I haven't seen anything.
However, what we and I suppose others are waiting for is industrial strength requirements management plugged into VSTS which isnt there yet. Word and VSTO is not a suite of tools that you can build a requirements management and tracking suite with. I suppose we are all waiting for Borlands integration - I know I am. I remember the slide deck from over a year ago that had the Rational Suite of tools listed and then these changed to the Borland Suite. Not just for Requirements but I also remember discussions around Together Architect.
VSTO and other MS products are not there when it comes to tracking and versioning for critical production systems.
The general problem with all launches and VS2005 and even before that is the marketing hype - you have to look under the covers.
I came a cropper last year with the project management aspects of VSTS which were pretty basic in real terms compared to the marketing hype around the product.

Thanks!
I'm interested to see what you have in store. The RM portion of VSTS is by far a weak area and it'll be nice to see some of that covered.
