B3R Client Install Error Code 2381

  • Joey Lee

I'm still curious if there is a location I can download or order a CD for the RC version without having a MSDN subscription.
  • BBBruce

Fixed. I ran the msi file separately and it said it didn't have permissions. I had tightened the security previously on that drive so there was only access by my user account. It looks like it installed properly.

So my solution is to copy all the files to the root of the hard drive it was looking for, and then make sure there is permissions for "everyone" to read/write to that drive.

It wrote two files to that drive (mfc80.dll, mfc80u.dll). Why would it try to write there if it thinks it is a CD drive

I don't think your understanding is correct. If you cannot get a clean install of RC, I don't see how you can get a clean install of B3R and clean upgrade. RC is the latest release and has the latest code.

I can not see your log file. Can you just go through the log file and post the section that contains the error

    Bo

Ok copying the files to the hard drive first gets me a little further.

I get a different error now. The install log is huge, so here is a section that contains the error and looks relevant.

    Sorry about that.

I searched for the first "error" in the log file, and this is what I found (bottom). It seems to be confused about the location of my CD drive. I'm installing from a CD in drive E, my only CD drive. It is looking for a files on drive F, where I have a second hard drive. I'll try copying all the files to that hard drive first, and then installing.

Either way I'm sure that is not supposed to work that way.

I got my copy of B3R from the 180-day trial order site. I couldn't download it, since I don't have a MSDN account currently. I can only work with what I have. Unless you know of a location where I can download RC without MSDN

No, you cann't. You need to have MSDN subscription to have access to RC.

I'm just installing the Team Explorer. I haven't installed the server yet (single server). I'm still procuring the hardware for the server. I got the B3R CD in the mail for the 180-day evaluation. I personally don't have access to a MSDN subscription, so my understanding is that I don't have any way to get the RC version.
My understanding is that if I can't get a clean install of the RC version I have to get B3R installed first and then upgrade. Is that also the case for the Team Explorer
I'll send the install log to forumsup@microsoft.com.

Can you send us the install log Also, what configuration do you have, signle server or dual server I suppose your server version is also Beta 3. If that is the case, we have Release Candidate (RC) version out there which is newer. You may want to try RC instead of Beta 3.
