I want to make a comparison study between Rational Unified Process and Microsoft Solutions Framework for Agile Software Development (MSF4ASD). At the moment, only general information about MSF4ASD is on the web public available.
Can you please give me an indication when more information (whitepapers, books) about MSF v4.0 will be available Or can you tell me who to contact to get the information < xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Kind regards,
Johan Traa

Build 100 is going through the validation process necessary to post it to MSDN. It should be ready very soon. I am working with Rob Caron to get it ready. As for whitepapers, there is no news on this front yet. However, there is an article coming out in the December CrossTalk journal on MSF for Agile Software Development. Many more are on the way.
Thanks for your patience,
Randy

Dear Mr. Miller,
Thank you for your reaction, but can you give me a more specific indication, like a date or within weeks/months, when the whitepapers and articles are available
Cheers,

Do you have a more specific link,
Thanks

This is so cool! Thanks for all of the help and interest in MSF for Agile Software Development. There are many differences between RUP and our agile MSF process. We utilize a persona/scenario (think of them like pieces of a use case) approach to getting finer granularity of requirements than a use case and more customer information than an actor without requiring an on-site customer (if you have one - great!). Our process is geared to the delivery-oriented team that can work without lots of intermediate documentation. There are so many other differences but I invite you to look at http://www.microsoft.com/msf and download the latest guidance (a new version, build 100, is on it way at the end of this week). The process guidance is a set of web pages. The process template is the set of work items, guidance, and configurations that integrate in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System (had to satisfy the marketing folks with that long name). Whitepapers and a series of articles are on the way. I am also writing a book that will be available at http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0321336445/qid%3D1130847491/sr%3D8-5/ref%3Dsr%5F8%5Fxs%5Fap%5Fi5%5Fxgl/202-2436540-9525450

Hello Cortega,
I'm very interested in your findings! My research also will not touch only methodological aspects, but also their tools support and underlying philosophy. And I think my thesis is finished and published in March 2006.
If you have interesting papers/literature can you please send it to me at johantraa@hotmail.com
With kind regards,

I believe you meant to retrieve the MSF for Agile Software Development, build 100 (you were looking in the MSF for CMMI Process Improvement section. Look under: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/teamsystem/msf/msfagile/, it is the second item.

I'm preparing some papers and findings on those topics.
Above all, these papers will not touch only methodological aspects, but also their tools support and underlying philosophy.
If you are interested I may have an advancement of this work in 1-2 weeks.

Carlos
PD. If you are in a hurry I can give you the following references:
1)
Really excellent <= very objetive ( Agile vs Fomality )
2)
Go to IBM Rational RUP Plug In Site
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/rational/library/5823.html
There you will find sveral plug ins that may be interesting for you =>
RUP PlugIn for.NET and RUP PlugIn for Extremme Programming
Although you may find several papers on both companies, in my own personal opinion, let me say both approaches have itheir own advantages and disadvantages...surprisingly both approaches can be extended or customized to be as rigurous or agile as the project needs... even more...both approaches are complementary.
Most important than all is...no matter how flexible, agile or rigorous the process or methodology description can be... you have to be disciplined ( disciplined is different than formal ) in your project.
