What is the MSDN Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite "Trial" Edition?

Hi everybody,

Today I found the Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite Trial Edition in MSDN Subscriber Downloads. I am a MSDN Universal subscriber and have transitioned my subscription to get access to the Team Suite for Software Developers edition.

Maybe anybody from Microsoft can clarify:

- What is the "trial" meaning Usually MSDN software is not limited as towards features or usable time

- Is the trial edition the one which I get due to the transition

Best regards
Ralf

The setups for the agent and controller are located on the Team Test Load Agent media, which is not available for download through MSDN Subscriber downloads (however, it is available from the Microsoft Volume Licensing Services (MVLS) download site if you have a Volume Licensing Agreement) as it is not part of any MSDN subscription. In addition, they are not included with Team Suite Trial Edition. Unfortunately, at this time there is no trial edition of Team Test Load Agent.

Both Team Suite and Team Edition for Software Testers include the ability to run Web and load tests, but only from the computers on which you install them.

You can use a client (Team Edition for Testers or Team Suite) to administer multiple Team Test Load Agent controllers. Each controller manages its assigned agents. Both the controller and agent install Windows services that the clients don't have.

BTW, for more information on this product, you should take a look at Team Test Load Agent (dev center), About the Controller and Agents (product docs), and the various related blogs from the product team (Josh Christie, Ed Glas, Bill Barnett, Sean Lumley, and their team blog).

Should the trial edition include the load agent/controller   I don't see them on the trial DVD and would like to try out the RTM version prior to deciding which license to get (QA/Dev), or upgrading to the suite.

    Hi,

I've been looking for information about 180 day trial version of team suite. This thread is informative.

I need information about setup of controller for the purpose of Remote Load Test.

Its been said in the "help" document that the controller setup is given as setup.exe in vs\controller in the 180-day trial edition of visual studio team suite.

I didnot find "controller" folder in "vs" folder of Visual Studio 205 DVD of the team suite set of DVD's.

Do let me any information regarding setup of cotroller using the the DVD's.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Sudan, we just updated MSDN universal to Team Suite but Microsoft fulfillment (800-759-5474) and the MSDN concierge say the there's NO way I can update a trial installation to retail to a full retail version and that I have to reinstall.

Is this true , the Maintenance Mode screen for VS Setup has an option to enter a Retail Key, but I can't find this key anywhere in the MSDN Subscirbers site.

    thanks

Q: If I install Team Suite after installing VS Pro, do I need to uninstall VS Pro
A: No, the two products live side-by-side. There is only one devenv.exe and it will launch the higher SKU. In this case, Suite is launched.

Q: Can I upgrade from Team Suite trial to the full version of Team Suite
A: Yes, the trial will go into maintanenace mode and give you the option to upgrade.

Q: If I use the Team Suite trial, what happens if I then install a role-based product
A: The Suite trial will continue to launch since it is considered the higher SKU. The trial edition will need to be uninstalled before you can use a role-based product.

In theory...  This trial is fully functional but limited to 180 days.  Realize that this is Team Suite, however, so you might end up using more features in the trial (i.e., Software Architect and/or Software Test features) that won't be available in your Software Developer edition.

I expect that you will eventually see your licensed version of Team Edition for Software Developers but that this won't happen until MSDN settles down.  For that matter, it is possible that they'll hold off on the individual installs until TFS RTM ships.

OK, now I'm confused. http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/products/subscriptions/default.aspx suggests that you either have access to all Team* Editions (MSDN Premium) or to none (MSDN Pro/Platform). Yet my MSDN downloads is only showing only
"Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Software Developers" or the trial version of the Team Suite.

Is the above URL wrong, or is there something up with my MSDN sub

    Cheers,

    Greg

My company currently does not have access to the full version of the team suite but is considering purchasing it.  In the meantime I'm downloading the trail version but want to know if this can be unlocked when we purchase a full license or I have to download another version.

    Cheers

Dave's reply is mostly right, but we're not holding any bits until launch. If you don't see the bits you're trying to find, and you've already made your transition selection, just give it a little bit of time to take affect.

    Thanks Ajay, that worked.

(We called Support three times and none of the reps know the answer to this).

    Hi Gabo,

    Please see this post:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/robcaron/archive/2006/02/09/529033.aspx

You can extract the required key from the DVD and avoid having to re-install.

    Thanks,
