There have no changes other than a Microsoft Windows update and a couple of power interruptions.
The MSDE version is 2.8 and it resides on the same machne as the VS 2003.
I am able to connect to my server instance through the SQL Server Service Manager.
Specific problem is that from within VS 2003 I can't get the Server Explorer to function correctly. I can neither create a new link to a database, or to expand my database instance. When I click on the the link icon or the Plus box by the server instance I get a quick flash of a message too fast to been seen. Is this activity being logged in one of the system logs
I also tried uninstall-reinstall VS 2003 with no luck.
The solution to my problem was to upgrade my operating system Windows XP SP1 to SP2. After that the server explorer started functioning again. An obvious guess would be that one of the Windows system files got corrupted.
So if have had your Visual Studio's SE stop working try reinstalling or better yet upgrade your OS.
VS 2003's Server Explorer is not working

What has changed on your system when this happened (reinstalls, configuration changes, service packs, etc.)
Could you be more specific on what error message do you get (connection timeouts, etc.)
What versions of MSDE do you have Is this on the same machine as VS 2003
Thanks,
Boris.
