SQL Server 2005 did not install

When installing Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition, I got a message stating that Microsoft SQL server failed to install. I tried twice with the same result.

Is this a package which can be used by a home user, on a 1.1 GHZ Celeron processor with Windows XP Home SP2, 512 MB memory and 40GB hard disk
If so, what programs should be present in C:\Program Files

If not, what should I uninstall There are quite a few entries in "Add or Remove Programs" in the Control Panel

SQL Server 2005 did not install

    I expect you wound up with a partial installation; to find out more you should pore over the SQL Server Setup log files.

    In general, Express certainly is meant for home users (among others). Sorry about your problems, and if you're still blocked please post a link to your log files.

    Re Windows XP Service Packs, I have SP2 installed.

    As for MS.Net I have have never had it until I downloaded Visual WebDeveloper 2005 Express yesterday, so I assume that what I downloaded was the latest.

    The message I get when trying to install is
    The following component failed to install:
    Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86  

    One thing I am wondering is whether this package is meant for home PC use or is it for servers which service users on the Internet, e.g. my server (homemail.com.au)

    If I don't need it or can't use it, then I will uninstall it.
    The question again is what do I uninstall  
    There are 4 or 5 items in the "Add or remove Programs" with names containing SQL Server

    If it is a useful package, how do I get it to install correctly
    Are the programs in my folder (the large list I attached) all the ones I want or should there be others
    Why are these programs here at all if I am told the package failed to install

    You have posted your query with a long list of files. We are still using SQL Server Database Engine.

    However, I am not sure, your problem seems to be of Service pack problem you may get latest service pack for windows or MS .Net frame work.

    I was having identical problem. When in ran the setup.exe it complained about several DLLs, txt and xsd files missing.

    It turns out, what would have been the total path for all these missing files would have been greater than 256 chars. So, I moved SQLEXPR32.EXE up several directories , extracted setup.exe again (using SQLEXPR32.EXE /x command) and this time everything went all hunky dory. Else you might want to increase this 256 limit.
