Unable to add user to a role

I'm having dificulty trying to add a user to a role in SSAS. I am operating in a development enviornment with two servers, 1) a domain/file/print server running Windows Server 2003 and 2) my SSAS server running on my laptop with Windows XP Professional. When I try to add a user to a role it seems that I am only able to add users which have local logons to my laptop. That is the only location listed when trying to browse the users. Is there any way to add a user from my Windows Server 2003 domain i.e. domain\username Every time I try this it doesn't allow me to continue.

I'd appreciate any ideas. I'm not much of a network/secuity person so sorry if this is an elementary question.

Looks like your laptop is not member of domain, or it is not connected to the domain when you try to add domain users.

If you are connected to the domain the Membership page in the Roles editor should accept domainname\username.

Again, Thank you for the info. You are right, although I have access to the resources it seems that I am not part of the domain as per your test. I just need to figure out how to become part of the domain. Currently I am just running my network without creating static IP addresses (since I am using Comcast broadband to connect to the internet). I guess I'll have to figure out a way to use AD without static IP addresses or maybe pay more for the Comcast broadband service that gives me a dedicated IP

Thanks again for your help. As I said I don't know much about networking and this is what it looks like my issue boils down to. Perhaps I need to get on the networking forum.

    Thank you for your feedback.

It seems though that the laptop is connected to the domain, when I log on, I do log onto the domein and I can use the mapped dirves on the domain server, the printer etc. Is there some other setting to ensure that I am actually on the domain

From the Windows 2003 Server domain server I did create a trust to my laptop do I have to do the same from my laptop I couldn't see how to do this in Windows XP Professional.

Thanks again for any advise you can give me.

To have access to domain resources and being part of the domain these are two different things.

The simplest test you can run to make sure you can use domain users in your Analysis Services roles is following:

Try and create a temporary folder in your file system. If you are able to define permissions for domain user to that folder, you should be able to add user to the Analysis Services role.
