YAIP (Yet Another Install Problem)

Problems getting SQL Express June CTP to install. When I run the setup I get:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
SQL Server 2005 CTP Setup has detected incompatible beta components from Visual Studio or SQL Server. You must run the build cleanup wizard from the CDE to remove previous SQL Server components and .NET Framework components, and then run SQL Server 2005 CTP Setup again. For detailed instructions on uninstalling SQL Server builds, see the SQL Server 2005 CTP readme file.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I run the sqlbuw.exe to clean things up and I get
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are no SQL Server 2005 or .NET Framework components to uninstall. You may now run setup wizard to install new instances of SQL Server 2005.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can't seem to win! Any suggestions Just running on XP Pro, VisStudio Beta2 was installed....

Thanks for any help!

I have quoted here the original post which sums things up best.

My specific case is that we were running the version that came with Visual Studio Beta 2 (I'm guessing this was Beta 2 of SQL Server though I could be wrong) and we are attempting to uninstall that and install the September CTP on that same machine.

Basically the Build Uninstall Wizard says everything is uninstalled but the SQL Server setup says something old is still installed.

    Thanks,

Appears as though one of our guys has made some progress on this.  We've discovered some log files being written in the following directory:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files

Using these log files we are obtaining the IDs for the apps that are halting the installation of the new SQL Server.  The ones we found are:

Product "{982DB00A-9C4E-436B-8707-18E113BAA44C}" versioned 9.00.1116 is not compatible with current builds of SQL Server.Expected at least version: 9.00.1314
The Product Name is "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services CTP"
Product "{63A5DC0D-1EDD-4D69-8F31-87FAEB1F7084}" versioned 9.00.1116 is not compatible with current builds of SQL Server.Expected at least version: 9.00.1314
The Product Name is "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Notification Services CTP"
Product "{E0A41F96-7231-4AE8-A654-EEB34F935462}" versioned 9.00.1116 is not compatible with current builds of SQL Server.Expected at least version: 9.00.1314
The Product Name is "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Data Transformation Services CTP"

Afting finding these IDs, we basically went through the registry and deleted anything to do with those and then went through the file system and did the same.  (Note that none of these showed up in Add/Remove Programs.)

Now we are successfully in the middle of the installation process right now.  Hopefully this will work correctly.
