Licencing -some clarification.

Hi All,

Not _strictly_ a DB engine question but could not find a better home...

I have 3 boxes:

A) 4 Dual core procs

B) 8 Dual core procs.

C) 4 Dual core

Box A will have SSIS, Reporting Services and IIS. (No SQL)

Box B will have only SQL.

Box C will have Analysis services on.

What I want to know is do I have to pay for SQL, 4 procs, for box A when it only has SSIS on it

I pay for SQL, 8 procs, for box B, do I need for the other two servers

Closest I could find is below, which would indicate I have to pay 3 times even though I am not using SQL in two of the cases.

Q. Do I need a separate license to run the SQL Server tools and analysis services
A. No, a separate license is not required. However, any device that has SQL Server tools or technologies installed must have a valid SQL Server license.

Thanks!

The feature don’t come as different products. If you install SSIS you install SQL Server, the same for reporting services. You have to buy additional lics for Box A and C.

The qoute from the FAQs indicated just that Analysis Services is not a separate product rather than shipped with SQL Server.
