I am having a small problem.
When I generate a report with a large amount of text data (Paragraphs) the report will not split the text between two pages.
It will move the entire text box to the next page leaving a large amount of space on the previous page.
I tried every control on the page to render this. I tried textboxes, tables, lists, rectangles, subreports, etc..
The data is stored in a SQL table using a text data type (there can be a large amount of data entered into these database.
Any help on this would be great. I like reporting services, but there are just a few bugs.
I am using Reporting Services 2000 with Service Pack 2 and Hotfix
http://support.microsoft.com/ kbid=912424 (That fixed a different PDF rendering issue) and this problem was occuring prior to this hotfix.
Thanks in advance

Large amount of text pushing to separate page after PDF Render

Wow, how can something like this be considered "by design" It works with Crystal Reports and Business Objects, Access Reporting, I could go on....
This seems like a very basic function of Reporting, and I am saddened to see that this might not be addressed.

This shouldn't have to wait for the next release... this should be part of a service pack. There are more than enough posts on the Internet to make the case that this behavior is causing a LOT of problems for users.

To be fair to our team, we have done a tremendous amount of work in a relatively short time. Some of the other products you mention have had much longer to mature and - well, they do some things we'd like to do and I'm sure the reverse is true as well.
Unfortunately, we have an implicit "keep together" flag set here that tells our renderer to choose to attempt to keep the text together (by moving to the next page first), rather than breaking it up and splitting it across the pages first. Of course, ideally, this flag would be an explicit flag that you can change if you don't like what the renderer decided. For our 2000 and 2005 versions, this isn't the case. I can't say whether it will make it into our next version, but I personally would certainly like to see it there.
Now, depending on the data or structure of the report, you can sometimes manually split the text across multiple report items.
The "by design" resolution means that the product is performing correctly according to our design. In this case, it's much more accurate to read it as "by (resource/time constrained) design".
Thanks, Donovan.

I can't imagine anybody who thinks this feature is better than splitting the text, but MS seems to have coorparation with paper and toner manufacturers ;)
