SQL Server Management Studio Express CTP will not start

Hello there,

Is anyone having problems with the Management Studio Express tool. I was able to installed it and use it for a couple of days without any problems but then one day it stop working. Now when I run the program it does not do anything. Not error messages in the event log. Also, I uninstalled and reinstalled.

    I'm running VS 2005 and SSMSE together on the same machine. I read in another thread however that there was a problem with the initial release of it and it was Patched shortly after.

    The gist of it is that if you downloaded the CTP before 11/11 and then installed the full Books Online, you should go here and download that patch.

    I'm having the same problem.  I installed the SSMSE CPT first and it was running fine until I installed the Visual Studio 2005 and SSMSECTP won't start since.  I uninstall the SSMSE CPT and reinstall it, still won't start.

    I read somewhere that "SQL Server Management Studio and SSMSE CTP cannot be installed side-by-side on the same computer"  It does not apply to SSMSE CTP and Visual Studio 2005, does it

    thanks for the reply.  After I read the two threads you mentioned, I uninstalled the SQL server book on line and the SSMSE CTP started to work.  I guess that's where the conflict lies.  The latest SQL express has the same problem, at least for me.  So remove SQL server book on line.  (SQL express book on line has not interference)

    I am having a similar problem and suspect it could be because I am using Windows XP home edition. I am not sure if that is supported or not. I will attempt to reinstall both SQL Server 2005 and the Management Studio Express today and see what happens.

    I found that the Books Online are also contained within the VS 2005 MSDN Library. So you can reference what you need from there.
