I am trying to uninstall SQL Express beta so I could install the latest version but unfortunately I cannot remove it. I tried going through my control panel but it wasn’t there, I tried using the uninstaller from Microsoft.com (http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/uninstall/) but it gave me error messages like saying …”
The setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore. The action is RestoreSetupParams. The error is: Failed to read property "Installds" {"MachineConfiguration", "",WEBDEVELOPER"}
from cache
Unable to write property into cache:IsClustered
Unable to write property into cache:
"Is Clustered"
XMLRW error: Falure loading xmlrw.dll
CheckAllProcedures() returned: 2
Then I click “OK” and then I got the following error:
The setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore. The action is Write_CommitFlag. The error is: Unable to write property into cache: flagCommit
Unable to write property into cache: "flagCommit"
XmlRW error: Failure loading xmlrw.dll
CheckAllProcedures()
returned: 2

Dear Mike,
I checked my ARP's list and SQL Server Express Edition does not appear. I tried installing a fresh copy but again, I wasn't successful. I get the following error message:

Hi Lawk,
All SQL 2005 products appear in Add/Remove programs under a single entry that says Microsoft SQL Server 2005, does this entry not exist in your ARP list In order to uninstall any given instance, you click Remove on the Single SQL item and then you will be presented with a list of installed instances and services from which you select the specific things you wish to remove.
I'm not sure if the failure with the tool you experiences will cause problems in attempting the removal via ARP or not, give it a try.
Could you verify which version of SQL Express you're running I'm wondering if you're really running a beta or if you're acutally runing the SP1 CTP.
