Problem with "The Goods"

All,
I tried to install Windows Vista with Virtual PC last evenning, following Ben's (Virtual PC Guy) instructions.  I however got stuck early on, it asked for my 25 digit activation code to do the install but refused to accept the one I was given in the book accompanying the disks.  Any thoughts

I'm as lost as you are. I already provided all the information I have.

Will Microsoft make a new Vista CD available
Or will Microsoft publish a workaround
I tried all possible posts on the web, nothing was successful.
Is anyone from Microsoft working on this

    Same issue here...
... I think the activation code is just bad, maybe it was for beta1 and not what ever build this is. I wish someone would post a work arround. The goods disk set needs some work...

Its pretty tough to get into the grace period when it won't even let you install it.

I heard the same problem from some other PDC attendees.  They too tried to burn ISOs, but the supplied key would not work.

    I'm having the same troubles.
I can't isntall it without passing the key screen. Any ideas
Plus, today is the 20th. Still not working.

I am using the key from the book included with the disks.  And I have tried a number of variations of physical disk or ISO image(on the local drive and on the CD).  Same problem each time.

I retyped the key about 8 times, there are no O's or zeroes in my code so none of that problem.  I'm pretty sure the key is bad.  I will try again when I am at the airport or when I get home..

Did you burn the ISO to a DVD

More information on that is available the PDC"TheGoods" wiki.

Tim Sneath wrote up a bunch of setup tips on his blog.  Other things we discovered:

Using the right ISO mounting tool is important because some of the ISO images are large and can cause problems. "Daemon Tools" appears to have the best success.

I've also heard that Virtual Server does a better job than Virtual PC but have had no confirmation.

  • Jeff The Super Man

I have tried it both as an ISO AND after burning to DVD.
  • Jorge Carbwood

I also have the same issue. I have made a couple of DVD's from the iso.
When I go to install vista from "The Goods" it fails when I try to use the activation key from "The Details" manual to be used for vista. "Can not validate activation key. This is a new machine being installed from scratch.

Anyone have any success getting past this point or suggestions

    ..thanks in advance,
    ....robert

Please note that if you are trying to use the keys from Beta 1 on the PDC 5219 build, that will not work.

If you are trying to install the beta 1 build using the CD key in the DVD cover (or behind), please double check to make sure that you have typed in the keys correctly. If it still fails, contact MS using the alias you received the DVD from.

I believe this is stated in the documentation included with "The Goods", but you will not be able to activate the product until Sept 20th (i.e. today). In the meantime, you can continue running the product using the 14-day grace period. So try later on today, and you should be able to get this working.

    Best wishes, Tim

I tried yet again, but the key still is refused, it seems this is a pretty common problem.  Will MS be giving us a resolution like a *Key That Works*!  If I can't get past that screen to install it, I can't try to actually activate it.
