Hi, I am still having problems with my network.
The System connects to a router. After installation all is running fine, except the network. Displaying the hardware properties says everything ok, but network connections are limited (HW is a realtek 8139/810x series PCI ctrl). I cannot receive an ip address. I followed some suggestions in earlier topics by assigning a fixed ip address and disabling ipv6 - no change.
When configuring into a workgroup, I tried to connect to an axisting group, but the wizard did not detect any. So I also changed it manually, even though it should not matter for a basic connection...
When I boot the standard xp system on the same box, but on another partittion, all works fine.
Can anybody give me a hand
thanks
Erik

Hi Erik,
I was not sure if that would do the trick, but it was worth a try. The other thing that I did was to load the the network drivers from XP in conjunction with reducing the amount of memory. Once I figured out that the memory was the problem, I reload (updated) the network drivers back to the Vista version.
So, I guess you could try loading the drivers from XP.
My install of Vista (build 5270) was very unstable until I reduced the memory (which I still think is related to some type of networking error). Anyway, I am out of ideas if the XP drivers don't work.
Take care,
David

Hi,
OK...
I had the same problem.
With my account having rights of administrator, I could not assign a fixed address IP.
It was recorded but was not effective (IPconfig /all showed old address IP).
Workaround: to make the change, run the account "Administrator".
Do the same thing, and IP 'll change, and you'll have a functional network!
Sincerly,
PS : sorry for my bad English!

Dave, I see what you mean. I just swaped the network drivers back to XP and forth to Vista, but the behaviour did not change. So I guess I am out of luck and have to wait for the next CTP in Feb.
Thanks anyway for you efforts

Hi Dave,
thanks for this try. I even truncated down to 268435456 (=256mb) and the network connection could not be restored
Any other ideas

Hi Eric,
I am not sure if this has anything to do with your problem, but I was experiencing a similar problem with my Broadcom 440x network adapter.
I was able to find some information regarding reducing the amount of memory available to the Vista OS to 1GB or less. To do so, you need to run the Boot Configuration Data Editor (BCDEDIT) to truncate the amount of memory. The BCDEDIT.EXE executable is in the Windows\System32 directory of the Vista OS and can be executed from the Command Prompt.
This is what I enteded on my machine:
bcdedit /set {default} truncatememory 1073741824
Once I made the change and re-booted, the network adapter started working correctly (except for IPv6). You will still see a message that you are Not Connected, but this seems to be related to IPv6 and not IPv4.
I hope this helps.
