Visual Test is blocked from clicking UI

In the Vista docs, it mentions UIPI and UAP being off by default in Beta1.  Since installing the Dec. CTP, Visual Test gets an error "cannot set playback hook" when attempting to click buttons on other applications.  This is essential functionality for UI scripting via MSAA applications like Visual Test and Silk.

What's the solution for enabling a VT to click buttons   Is this a bug of the Dec. CTP or a feature   We can and do run all of our Automated Script Testing as Admin.  This however, does not resolve the issue.

I guess Visual Test is falling prey to the same problem afflicting (apparently) any app that uses the journaling hooks:

I've been waiting for some kind of response on this issue for ages. And apparently, so have many others - the view count for the above thread is over 3000. But, not a word from anyone in the know.

Surely MS can tell us whether this is a temporary problem, or a deliberate change that is going to adversely affect (if not plain kill) many products when Vista goes live

Sounds like its the same. I can't technically confirm what VT is doing, but I'm sure its related. Let's hope we all get a response soon.

Have Microsoft actually hinted that they'll be dropping support for certain areas of the Win32 API in order to plug security holes Or is this your own gut feeling

If they drop all support for journaling, they'll kill a lot of genuine applications - not least one of their own!

I'm a VT and C++ developer looking for assistance.  Isn't this what this forum is for I've also entered a bug against this issue and haven't heard back.  No e-mail confirmation, nothing.  Has anyone else been successful in writing UI Automation in Vista that wasn't completely written all over again from scratch

Yes, sounds like the same issue, and you are going to get back..."By design". This was a security vulnerabilty exploided by a number of viruses. It is Often called a "shatter attack"
