I searched sites and found very detailed NET problems but not answer to my basic installation failures. General discussion seemed best forum.
I am performing a re-install of WIN XP on newly formatted HD from retail CD. All XP installed expect NET.FRAMEWORK. Get "MSI.FX Fatal Error" and ERROR 2908 and ERROR 1935. Tried numerous installs, same result. Decided to continue with MS updates and rest of other program installations. Interspaced with attempts at NET install--all negative. Now have XP fully updated for installed features. NET failed to install again. Have tried with ver 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0. Also tried to install from HP6800 printer CD as an included program--same failure. I do not have HOTFIX K886904 or K886906 installed.
Net.Framework had installed fine on earlier XP installation and used for over a yr but had to remove all programs due to disk problem. reformatted disk and active partition NSTS. What to try next Thanks, Leigh

Here is a great blog on 1935 and 2908 errors: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2004/11/10/255346.aspx. I recently ran into the same errors on an install. In particular, check to see if any of the return codes in the table listed on that page match one in the log file generated by the installer. That will help you further diagnose the issue.
