.NET Framework 2.0 Event Viewer error

Since .NET Framework 2.0 x86 was installed on my computer, this event is recorded periodically:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: .NET Runtime
Event Category: None
Event ID: 0
Date:  11/13/2005
Time:  1:52:45 AM
User:  N/A
Computer:
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( .NET Runtime ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Unable to open shim database version registry key - v2.0.50727.00000.

I use XP SP2 with .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0 installed and I do NOT work as administrator user.

Has MS any idea, maybe a bug or a documented problem

Did anyone find a solution to this I am having the same problem after inactivity we start getting this error.
  • Jennifer LaMacchia

Same issue also. what I found is when replacing web.config file on ver 1.1 websites or replacing dll files under bin dir of the web site. we get "Server Application Unavailable" on our web pages, this start happening after installing the .NET FW2 . only when IIS is reset, website is back to normal.
Need a solution ASAP this is serious.

I moved the thread to the .NET Development General web forum.

Take a look at this related web forum post:

We are also having this issue.  At present we are in UAT so it's a show stopper!  It appears to happen periodically and after a period of inactivity (say a few hours), upon executing the same code, it will not occur.

We're on 2003, .NET 2 only installed and not running as administrators.

Can you please advise where you moved it. We've been getting the same error regularly (5-10 times a day) after installing .NET Framework 2.0 as part of the latest Microsoft updates, and we don't even use .NET Framework. Seems to be a glitch introduced with the latest updates.
