Is the release of the .Net framework 2.0 tied to the release of Visual Studio 2005

I'm trying to determine if I should switch development to Visual Studio 2005 beta 2.  The product appears to be stable enough for me, however my concern is that the release date of the .Net framework 2.0 is tied to VS2005, and won't be for quite some time.  I'm developing a WinForms product aimed at the retail market, so the "go live" license isn't an option.

but if the release the .Net framework is expected shortly, then it becomes feasible for me to switch.

    I get the dependency that Visual Studio 2005 has on the  .Net framework, but presumably the .Net Framework has no dependency on Visual Studio, and could be released as soon as it's bug free.

    is that still six months away, or are there plans to release it sooner

    I think, as of now, the .NET Framework is stable enough for Release to Market and the developer teams are waiting to bug-free VS2005, so as to enable a simultaneous release.

    The reason they are tied together is because VS2005 is a Product built using .NET Framework 2.0 and hence it cannot be released unless .NET Framework 2.0 is released.

    As of now, the release is set for Aug-Sept 2005 timeframe.

    Hi,

    The thinking is that *most* professional developers and organizations would use the .NET Framework 2.0 along Visual Studio 2005 for developing any serious applications. Hence the two will be released together.

    In any case, the Beta 2 has a Go Live license and hence the applications that you write can be used in production.

    No, I think'll you will find that Visual Studio and .NET Framework are released together.
