.NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2

Tried Installing .Net Framework 2.0 Beta 2 on Win 2003 ( no service pack 1) , and the installation crashes so can't actually install it.

I think I use to have .NET Framework 2.0 either Beta 1 or Beta 2 not to sure, installed prior, I did completely remove it , before installing again.

I've been checking the install logs and found this:

Could this be the problem, what does it mean

OK after much swearing I think I found the problem.

I uinstalled Windows Installer 3.1 (KBxxx), becuase when I ran netfx.msi it told me there could be something wrong with the Windows Installer and the service didn't start.

I believe that the GUI from .netframework just gave up.

Any I removed the installer then restarted, I then re-installed it again and then tried installing .net from  the Command line and it worked.

Question raised is how did the Windows Installer 3.1 become corrupt in the first place

    Hi,

See if a folder exists in \windows\microsoft.NET\Framework\
that starts with v2.xxxx. Delete the 2.x folder if it exists and try again.

Beta versions are considered to be unstable and hence, using Virtual PC is recommended.

Found the directory and removed it,  and then rebooted still no joy!, Install still crashes
when it gets to computing disk space, with a " sending a report to microsoft" message, which I don't think it does.

Maby better way is just to install SP1
I have Windows 2003 and Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 Installled and everything workks just fine - no crashes.

Can't install SP1, becuase machine is in a Datacenter, and I believe I would have to travel a few hundred miles just to install it.
