What software do I need for .NET

I'm a software developer for a large corporation that wants to learn .NET.  What software do I need to install on my home computer   I'd like a full professional development environment but I'd be the only one using it.  Is there anything that MS produces that's not a hobbled student version yet less expensive than full blown team software

Thanks,

John

Thanks Geraldo.  I may indeed get the beta.  I think I'd rather buy the "Standard" edition of 2005 if I were to buy anything.  But, I found a Visual Studio .NET "Professional" edition at Amazon.com coming out around Nov. 28th.  Do you know anything about that one

Thanks Konstantin.  I can see which one of the .NET 2003 packages I would need.  I'm wondering about Visual Studio .NET 2005 though.  On this site, I only see the "Express" and "Standard" editions which seem a little weak to me.  Then there the various "Team" editions that are much too expensive for me to buy as an individual.  If I transition to .NET within my organization, that software would be supplied.  I'm hoping that there will something more powerful than the "Standard" edition of 2005 that costs less than five or ten thousand dollars.  Do you know of anything

    Thanks again,

    John

To run .NET you just need the runtime. If you want to have full professional development environment, the only way is to have MS Visual Studio .NET Pro/Enterprise [http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/]

You can request a free beta CD at http://msdn.microsoft.com/getthebetas/

Check the Getting started section of the .NET Framework at http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/gettingstarted/default.aspx

However you should also look at the Express editions, they are quite powerful http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/express/

    Hope this helps.

alternatively, you take MSDN Pro subscribtion http://msdn.microsoft.com/howtobuy/vs2005/subscriptions/Default.aspx so you have VS 2005 Professional and much more MS products for some years ahead. At the first it may seem very expensive, but if you look at what is included - it's not a bad deal

Visual Studio 2005 is coming out November 7th. It comes in different flavors: Express Editions, Standard, Professional, Office and Team System.

You will find the complete product line at http://msdn.microsoft.com/howtobuy/vs2005/

Here is an overview of Team System, which is a great tool even for an individual developer http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dnvsent/html/vsts-over.asp

Let me know if I can help.
