Appforge appears to have closed its doors as of March 14, 2007. No one answers the phone pr Email. Nothing can be purchased at the AppForge online store. From messages in the AppForge Support Forum, there are no longer any employees.

For what it's worth appForge has pretty well known development products. I don't think there trying to do anything except protect their investment.

While I'm not with Microsoft, I would say your question is somewhat irrelevant. The compact framework can target smartphones as well (not just PDA's). Smartphone is growing too.

All that being said the original statement still stands that if you are looking to develop Symbian appForge has some good stuff, if it's games your targeting you may want to take a look at GapiDraw as well http://www.gapidraw.com/

    Anyway my $0.02
