Hi all,
I have the following problem:
I have several customers which cannot install the compact framework 2.0 on their PDA. (e.g. Acer n35, Yakumo alpha GPS)
They get the message that the install file wasn't created for this device. All have a PDA with PocketPC 2003 OS with a Samsung S3C2410 processor. All use Active Sync 4.1.
Can anyone tell me why the installation failed. I distributed the "NETCFv2.ppc.armv4.cab" file. Surprisingly, the Beta2 CAB file is working.

CF 2.0 don't install on Samsung processors

It's not related to the processor. Most likely it's a bug in the OEM OS image described here:

Unfortunately, your only option is to contact device manufacturer and obtain fixed OS if available. Sorry about that.

Dear Martin,
A few weeks ago I bought a Yakumo alpha GPS on ebay. I know it is an older PDA but I like it and it works fine. I also tried to install the .NET v2 software and tumbled on the same problem where this forum topic is all about (another reason to change OS is the language). Your solution is written on some more web-sites, but I still have some questions:
- You updated the bootloader first... did you do that on a N30 or the Yakumo Alpha
- How do I do this anyway I have bootloader v2.1 on my Yakumo, is that also usable I don't know how to update the bootloader.
- When I tried to backup my current OS, I got several error messages about memory locations. The files generated are not of the right size. How do I backup my current OS
- Several websites state that with a N30 OS, on the yakumo, the GPS cannot be turned off anymore (a lot of power and therefore recharges!) is this true
- Your whole story above talks about the N30... is this story exact the same for the yakumo So also the resetting with the joystick etc.
I hope you can help me a little with this. This topic has been here for a while but as you see, it still goes on!
Thanks in advance,

as mentioned above there is a problem with the OS implementation.
Here you can find the OS-Update to Windows Mobile 2003 SE:
ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/handheld/n35/osimage
I just have installed the image on a Yakumo alpha GPS.
I had to update the boot loader first (n35_SE_Eboot 6.2.rar).
After that I installed the image (n35_SE_v2.10.12_GER_SD.rar for German, I guess n35_SE_v2.10.12_WWE_SD.rar is English, but I don't know..perhaps the files are also on the acer us-Server).
And format your sd-card with FAT, and try different ones, if it doesn't work with one.
Hope this helps.

now with CF .NET 2.0
How to proceed:
1. Use a FAT formated empty SD card
2. Unzip (or copy) all the files in the ZIP to the root of the SD card
used for the image upgrade. Please also note that only one image can be upgraded
at a time. For example, if you unzip (or copy) all the WWE files to the root of the
SD card, then unzip (or copy) all the FRA files to the SD, only FRA image will be
flashed to the device.
3. Set the n30 hard reset switch to left.
4. Connect the n30 to external power. (Use AC power)
5. Insert the SD card.
6. Press and hold the power button, and then set the hard reset switch to right.
7. You will see the screen becomes all white. Wait for at least 5 seconds,
then release the power button.
8. Wait for at least 2 minutes for an orange-colored progressing bar to show up.
9. If you don't see the bar after 2 minutes, please repeat from Step 3.
10. If you have tried several times but no success, the SD card you are using
can not be detected by the system. Pls pick another SD card, and repeat from
Step 2.
11. If you are upgrading OS ROM, the device will reboot when upgrade is done.
If you are upgrading boot loader, please hard reset the device when upgrade is done.
