Pocket Explorer "Default" layout

I'm currently trying to write a CSS styled site that will behave nicely on the pocket PC. However, although my site works nicely in "one column" and "desktop" it looks terrible in "default". Does anyone know what it does for "default" Perhaps something to do with a fixed width DIV
