Connect to ActiveSync using Wireless Network

Using ActiveSync 3.8 I was able to easily connect over ActiveSync to my PC using my wireless network.  Since installing ActiveSync 4.0 I can not get this to work and I cannot find any documentation on how to set this up.

My wireless connection is shown as connect if I goto Settings | Connections | Connections | Advanced | Network Card.

How do I use my wireless network to connect to my PC using ActiveSync 4.0

    Jeff,

This is a real significant loss in functionality.  There are times when it is impossible for me to physically connect to the device when I need to do debugging.

This should work on all devices; the article was targeted to generic CE5.0 because that's the common scenario for not having AS functionality. You should check out http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2005/05/22/420884.aspx (and you can leave feedback for the WM/AS team on this design change). FWIW, I'm sure that the WM/AS team knows how painful this is, and will do their best to get this back if possible. I would also recommend grabbing a usb-bluetooth dongle and doing AS with that.  I've been quite happy with that solution.

    Jeff,

Does this only work on CE 5.0 devices

I need to debug devices connected to the serial port on the CE device.  I remember having problems trying to debug when I was connected via a USB and use the serial port on some CE devices at the same time.  I don't remember which devices or which version of CE was involved.

Can someone point me towards good instructions on enabling AS over the lan in 3.8

A am new to Mobile OS and spent quite some time trying to figure it out with no livk.

Bluetooth is even slower than USB.

The problem here is that M$ suffers from recto-cranial inversion.

Here is a thought:  Let to corporate users disble Ethernet sync.  Gee, I am able to do that now with 3.8.  I wonder why no one else thought of that.

You can debug without AS. Please see this:

For security reasons, ActiveSync 4.0 does not allow you to connect to your desktop over a network, you need to have a physical connection (i.e. USB cable) in order to sync. You can sync directly with your exchange server over a network, but not with a desktop. Hope this helps,
