Dear Visual Foxpro 9...

Dear VFP 9.

Although I have known your great grand parents Foxpro and Foxbase, there is still much to learn about you. Its a few months since we met for the first time, and I was wondering if I can ask you a few questions about you. I am sure we'll have a much better relationship once I know the answers...

- When I use incremental search in your combos, is there a way for you to avoid stopping the search when I use the space bar
- When I drag a grid to a form, is there any way to use my own classes as the objects used in the grid

- When I drop a field into a form, the label is aligned with the txtbox on the TOP. Is there a simple way to make you align the lbls and the txtboxes at the center, or do I have to do these manually Manual stuff usually don't work well in a good relationship...

- For some reason I have a problem using your grids and autofiting them. No matter when I call the autofit method, it won't autofit until I click the column. Maybe you can help me understand this behaviour of yours Or maybe you can tell me what am I doing wrong so I can change my ways

- How do I use DynamicBackColor in conjunction with an INDEXED table I can't use your recno() and you know why... And I can't use ActiveRow cause its really slowing your responses. So, what's the secret

- What do I do when an error corrupts one of your database containers, and I can't even open it in order to run a VALIDATE DATABASE command...

- Is there a simple way for me to create a copy of a database so I can recreate it easily later Is there a way for me to send dbc structure to a different developer so he can update his data structure but without sending all the data in the tables

- Do you know what font should I use in order to produce text on printers, mainly Dot Matrix to match your Grandparent's fonts Please note that I still use print commands ( ) in order to produce output in some cases.

Your help would be greatly apreciated.

Aleniko.

    Well Aleniko,

Then you know the story of me well. My great grand pa was acquired from another family called fox and since then had to learn with other brothers and sisters in law. There are rumours I was redheaded step child of my new family and to be honest I'm suspicious I really am. My parents have brute force on me to provide my resources and services to my youngest brothers and sisters and live with water and bread <s>. Anyway you invoked my sorrow.

-Combos and listboxes <s>. I have a great suspicion they were inhereted from some genes after my grandpa's acquired by new family. I see same ill behaviors in my brothers and sisters. When I had the ultimate alternative ability called grid of myself I never tried to enhance those much.

-Oh as the newest grandchild of my family I already have that as an addition. Read the story about "what's new in this kid"

-Oh dear even my grand parent's have the ability to do that. Check my object mappings. You can tell me to the that at field level or object level.

-Well I don't know about it sorry. I almost forgot I have a new AutoFit method. One of my extensions called FoxyClasses is doing that since VFP5 in another way. Maybe that can help.

-No secret there. Simply select my recordnumbers along with the field you sorted on to a cursor ordering by that field and index it. You could then seek my field from that cursor and use recno of that cursor to provide 'activerow' order.

-I think you would need external code or 3rd party to control such behaviors of me. Do not trust direcly on me for that.

-Oh you know what. After my grandpa was acquired, his child Visual III had a tool called gendbc. It was enhanced since then and still sits in my tools\Gendbc extremity.

-Hmm I remember they were System and Terminal. Courier New is the new sexy one. However as they told to me creating a generic text printer and printing it to ASCII would work the same way and fast.

If you didn't have so many questions in one letter I could provide more details. I heard they're talking about your questions and solutions a lot on a place called www.universalthread.com. Check there.

    Dear Aleniko,

Thanks for writing. However, it is very difficult for me to answer your letter. In the future, please keep in mind that it is proper to have only one question per letter.

    Ooops.
Sorry. I didn't know I should be posting problems one at a time.

    I apologize.

Thanks Cetin for the response, although I still have some questions. Ill post them one at a time though :-)

    Thank you all.

    Aleniko,

The original idea might be cute but this is a professional forum where questions are suppossed to be asked at one question per message and the thread subject (title ) should be related to the problem at hand. How else are people searching for a similar problem in the future going to find a suitable answer or solution
