For some reason, (really not sure why, but it happens every now and then on my company's PC) my normal.dot file containing a few years' worth of customisations and home-grown macros was reset to the default a few days ago. My backup normal.dot has the toolbar customisations and lists the macros in the Tools>Macro>Macros window, but they do not run. ("Could not load Macro storage" error.) I can see snippets of the macros when I load the file into notepad. The VBA editor doesn't know they are there.
Does anyone know if I can extract the macros from the .dot file - without using Word
MS Office Word 2002 Windows XPpro
Thanks for any help.

Hi,
Our engineer provided the following:
I found that we have a KB of the issue.
INFO: Corrupt Normal.dot Causes Errors When Automating Word
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247028/en-us
Would you please ask our ISV to try the KB Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.
Safe mode gave the same results as default.
Word-fix doesn't recover macros (according to their web-site) and the excelfix website has loads of interesting links, but I couldn't see anything that would do the job.
Antiword doesn't help either.
Ho hum.

You could try opening Word in safe mode and see if you can access your files macros from there, check the help file, look up Office Safe mode and you'll get information on how to start Word in safe mode and whats enabled and diasbled.
If that doesn't work use word recovery software.
