What version of Team System do EmpowerISV members get?

Current MSDN Universal subscribers get a free upgrade to their choice of one of the Team editions of Visual Studio 2005 when its released.  What about current EmpowerISV members   And what will future members get   I'm planning on joining the program, but I want to be sure I know what my team will be  getting long-term, especially as it relates to Visual Studio Team System.

added my commens to the ladybug link....

    MSFT:  get a clue!

get all us ISV's to start using TS now and then will will keep using it as we grow.
if we see it as to costly and do not use it then we will be more likely to go to other tools and just not use TS ever....

do you want TS to be a "BOB"
I also recall COmic Chat and the early days of MSFT on the internet....

GRASS ROOTS!  let us in the trenches learn and prove the worth of TS to our large customers..... then they will hear how great it is from the 1000's of us...

Empower for ISVs will receive Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition with an MSDN Premium subscription.  This provides 5 internal use licenses and the MSDN Premium media kit with 5 licenses.

More information will be released about this over the coming weeks.  Information will be updated on the Microsoft Partner Program site as it becomes available.

If you think Empower for ISV members need more than Visual Studio 2005 Pro, you may now vote on the issue here.

I understand that right now they still have MSDN Universal access and as such have full access to the betas, but my question is what's going to happen when MSDN Universal goes away   Current MSDN Universal subscribers get to upgrade for free to one of the new higher-end subscriptions that comes with an edition of Team System.  Are EmpowerISV members eligible, too   Or do they get something different   I'd like to see ISV's get access to Team Suite instead of just a single edition since everyone in my organization wears all the hats (architect, developer, and tester).

As a current participant, those in the Empower ISV Program may access MSDN Subscriber Downloads and obtain any version of Team System that is available to any other subscriber. As participants are provided universal subscriptions I don't think there is any reason for concern.

Hi Marty, I know this thread is a little old, hopefully you have an alert on it. I don't know if you're from MS or not, but is this information still correct

I spoke to the folks at MSDN yesterday and was assured that Empower customers will be allowed to change each of their 5 Universal to one of the team suite role based subscriptions. I've also had it comfirmed by email that the Universals won't be downgraded to Professionals come november.

It'd be great to have an official MS reply to this question.  It's one that I've seen asked in misc other forums and newsgroups, so it's not like I'm the only person asking this question (though I do appear to be one of the few).

Yesterday, I sent e-mail to an Empower ISV Program coordinator asking him to get an answer to this question. Whether what I return with is going to be 'official' enough is up to you...

Today I received the MSDN Subscription for May and it included a card stating...

With the upcoming release of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 we will be making some exciting new changes to our MSDN and Visual Studio product lines. These changes are designed to ensure you continue to get great value from our products and have the best choice of Microsoft tools for your job.

For the first time, Microsoft will be releasing a set of new software development tools called Microsoft Visual Studio Team System that extends our existing Visual Studio product line to include new lifecycle tools for project managers, architects, developers, and testers. For more information, please visit http://msdn.microsoft.com/teamsystem/.

Customers who receive MSDN Subscriptions through one of our commercial licensing programs, including Retail, Open Licensing, and Volume Licensing (Select or Enterprise Agreement), should visit http://msdn.microsoft.com/howtobuy/vs2005/transition/ to find out how to receive a no-cost upgrade to Visual Studio Team System.

Customers who receive MSDN Subscriptions through one of our Partner Programs (Empower or Microsoft Certified Partner) should visit the Microsoft Partner Program Web site at http://partner.microsoft.com/global/program/programbenefits/.

For more information, we encourage you to visit our Web site at http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/ to understand more about these great new changes.

    Thank you...

    The MSDN Subscription Team

"Customers whose subscriptions are active upon Visual Studio 2005 product availability will automatically transition into a Visual Studio Team System role-based product".

So far I expected no difference for EmpowerISV members. But now, after you have raised the question, I would like to see an official MS reply to this question, too.

Yeah, I'd be very interested in anything you can get out of them, so please do post a reply here if you get anything back.

    Hi Tim

Do you remember who you spoke to at MSDN   As I've spoken with a number of people who just transfer me around an are clueless when it comes to Empower.

Would you be able to PM me with the comfirmation email you received

    Many thanks

The Empower program is still a great deal, but I definately don't like the sound of that.  In a small ISV, we have the same requirements as larger corporations to produce secure, high-quality code (at least in my case where we create law enforcement software, but I think that's equally true to all software companies; who sets out to create unsecure, low-quality code ).  Having access to the Team System suite of products would replace a lot of the open source solutions we have crudely tied together (such as NUnit, CruiseControl.NET, Subversion, etc) with a tightly-integrated package that would just generally make my life easier.

It's still a good deal, but I wish we at least got the Team Developer SKU of Team System.

The deadbeat parasite I wasted over two years trying to work with to develop an application for the ISV program that's who.
