Windows media files have changes to Nero

Thanks a million for explaining how to knock this on the head. What a relief!

After installing Nero it pretty much hi-jacked my computer. I've had to re-install software and do all kinds of "repairs". I'm kinda scared to un-install it in case it removes "vital" files etc that other programs require.

Thanks again for your help.... you're an angel

    Hello Brenda,

NERO has done it to me also. I have followed your instructions listed but the files do not change from Nero Files. All of my files changed from media player files to this Nero File type. My I tunes and Nero player will play my music, but media player wont play the files. Another problem is that the nero files will not transfer to my I river player. If you have any advise I would appreciate it. Thanks

    Bye bye

great! I've passed on your praises to the WMP folks who provided the answer.

here's one more note that was provided by the team:

Also if they changed after using a ISV program, its probably worth a look in the options or settings of the ISV program to prevent future re-occurrences of observed behavior where the ISV app re-claims file types without user input.

That way only works for the one file you right click and ask to "open with".  Nero was too smart for that!  All my icons on all my music files have a green Play button arrow icon for Nero.  It changed all of em !!!

Is there a permanent way to have Media Player return the default music program   I feel your pain !!  Grrrrrrr !

probably the same thing, but maybe have to do one file at a time, try to get back to you, good luck!

I'm sure that there's a more elegant way of doing this, but I believe that you can right-click on one of your music files and choose Properties. Next to Open File With, click the Change button, and select Windows Media Player from the list that comes up.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Rich,

Here's another suggestion from our internal WMP alias:

Well, WMP's Tools:Options:File Types is your first stop.
    Then Explorer's Tools:Folder Options:File Types.
Then the Set Program Access and Defaults Control Panel (SPAD).

But none of that is permanent, because permanent is generally evil and completely impossible for My Mom or Dad user to understand.

If you really want to Always Open With, right-click on the media type in question within Explorer, choose Open With, choose Choose Program, then select the application you love and click the "Always use..." checkbox.

    Hope this works for you!

Thank you Sooo much.  WMP | Tools | Options | File Types  works for now.
    Thanks again.  You're awesome.
