The SQL Server Express Books Online says:
The following table lists the prerequisite software and minimum hardware and software requirements for running Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (SQL Server Express).
There is no support in this release for Virtual Server, ...Windows XP Media Edition, or Windows XP Tablet Edition.
