VISUAL BASIC 6.0 MSDN ERROR MESSAGE AT HELP MENU, WHAT TO DO?

I get a message, "The MSDN collection does not exist. Please reinstall MSDN." When I try to access any of the HELP features of Visual Basic 6.0.

I do not have an install disc for this. Is there a download or a place I can get this

    Thanks, dude.

I did locate my original CDs. Man, these are old! The files are dated 1998!

I just found (after re-reading several times) an important sentance in the MSDN subscriber downloads for the October 2001 MSDB Library:

Note: The October 2001 MSDN Library is the last version of the MSDN Library that integrates with Visual Studio 6.0. Later versions of the Library will provide f1 integration only with Visual Studio .NET versions.

So I can get the most recent version and cross my fingers...

Please note that this forum is not for Visual Basic 6.0 questions, however...

The MSDN CD was included as a separate disc with VB 6 when you purchased it. If you have lost it, you are most likely out of luck since VB 6 was released eight years ago. You can, however, access the VB 6 help online at : http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp url=/library/en-us/vbcon98/html/vbstartpage.asp

You're welcome. As I recall, we never made any updates to the VB6 help after the initial 1998 release, so all you will gain by installing the 2001 version will be some additional whitepapers and such.

These forums are for VB.NET and there are better places to find answers for older versions of VB.

    Maybe the VB6 newgroups - http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx dg=microsoft.public.vb.general.discussion&lang=en&cr=US

Or perhaps the VB6 resource center
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/vbrun/

or perhaps www.vbcity.com may be useful places to search for answers on VB6 related questions.

If you are an MSDN subscriber then you may be able to find these online. Or you may be able to obtain replacement media for appropriately licensed versions of VB6. information on obtaining downgrade product media is here

There shouldn't be any problem installing both the current MSDN Help and the VB 6 Help side-by-side. As you noted, they are different help formats (VB6 was Help 1.0, VS 2005 is Help 2.0)

You can still access the VB 6 help in the online MSDN library, but if you want F1 support from VB 6 you will need to re-install VB 6 help from the original CD.

    Hope this helps,

I too have this problem. Installing the latest MSDN didn't solve the problem. From what I can tell it's incompatible with the old VB6 format, only working for my .net environments. I should be able to dig up my original CDs but I have to wonder: will installing an older version screw up my new version

    Thanks.
