Hello all,
I recently purchased Visual Basic .net 2003 and installed it. I am working on a project where I need to use the serial port to communicate with a remote device. I added the 'Serial Communication' to the toolbox sucessfully. However when I try to add the 'serial communication icon' to my form I received an error message that I do not have a license for this application.
Any ideas what my problem is
I don't know if this is relevant, but I did have a problem installing VB.net. I have an epson cx4600 printer. When I used the autorun feature from Disc 1 and tried to install VB.net, the printer scan application would open and the VB autorun application would stall. To install I had to go into the Setup folder, and manually run 'Vssetup'. Is it possible I did not install VB.net properly
Any help is greatly appriciated!
Thanks,

Hi John,
You are correct. I found this on the Microsoft website yesterday which explains the problem. http://support.microsoft.com/ kbid=318597. This explains how to licencse VB6 controls for use in VS 2003. I followed the instructions and it works.
Do you know how to set up serial communication using the Visual studio 2003. I have seen some compatibility issues when using remnants of VB6 code in VS 2003.
I really appricaite you help.
Thank you,

It sounds to me like the design time license is not installed on the machine.
Can you use the control in a new VB6 project on the same machine
If not you will need to install the ActiveX control using the original installation disks in order to install the design time license.

I have a similar problem with a Windows 2000 install of CX4600 - when I try to use the printer, I get a rundll error message. The scan and save part of the install works ok, so I have connectivity to the device.
Why doesn't the print function install
Help!
