Hi, i see you wan't to make games in VB!

Over the past 5 years i have used Visual Basic 3, 4, 6 & 2005. The only one that i liked using is Visual Basic 4. If you can get hold of the 32bit version then you're laughing! However if you have managed to get 6, you should stick with it! I have actually built a 2D game in VB4 (http:\\www.supercragus.co.uk\02_project\1sonicres.html). Since that i have realised that it would have been impossible to build it in Visual Studio 2005.

Visual Basic isn't a language that i would recommend for game making! my only reason for using it was to see if it was possible! and it is, as long as you don't use VB 2005!

    Hi,

It is possible to do Visual Basic Game Programming using Visual Basic Express Edition available from here.

Like I already mentioned, the book may not help since there are some major differences in programming VB5.0/6.0 to Visual Basic 2005. Visual Basic 2005 is an Object Oriented Language and hence the programming style differ as compared to VB 5.0/6.0 in several ways. There is sufficient information available in the help and online sites to help you out.

Regarding the program, you can generate a .EXE for your game and run it on Windows having the .NET Framework 2.0 installed.

    Hi,

Check this link if you want to check the Learning Edition:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1572318732/103-4142254-8246213 v=glance&n=283155

But like I already said, learning Visual basic 2005 would be a better option than learning VB 6.0

    Regards,

    Vikram

Thank You, and im sorry to hear that. Will the program you just said work the same as Visual Basic 5.0/6.0 And the book I have is Microsoft Visual Basic Game Programming For Teens.

    Hi,

Visual Basic 5.0/6.0 is not free and hence cannot be made available to you. I would recommend you consider using the Express Editions which are freely available as of now and a are free for a year: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/default.aspx

The book on VB 6.0 may not be of much use with .NET, but you can use the help that comes along with these products to make a start.

    Regards,

    Vikram

    sanjiro.

I assume you are a student. Check with your high school or local university/community college bookstore and see if they have a copy of Visual Basic Learning Edition. It should cost you about US$129. I bet, if you look on ebay, you should be able to find it for US$10.

but. . . I would get the VB Express and If you can, return the book for a refund, It is a shame that this book, published only one year ago, used vb6.

If your goal is to become a good programmer first,  and a game programmer second, you might look at this book:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1590591143/qid=1135742492/sr=1-26/ref=sr_1_26/103-5226499-4897467 s=books&v=glance&n=283155

but again. . . it uses game programming as a way to learn programming. It is not about creating games. That isn't necessarily a bad thing though!!!

    Good Luck!

Oh, and you might want to contact the publisher and see if there is a .net version of your current book in the works. Still I would consider returning it.
