Word with embedded Visio diagram

I'm using VB6 (don't have access to .NET right now) and I am trying to figure out to gain access to and modify shapes and text fields inside of a visio diagram (created with visio 2003) -- and the visio diagram is embedded in a word 2003 document. Is this possible Even any small tips you may have are greatly appreciated in advance.
