Hi,
I have the following questions:
- Does this tool replace Exch_Calc.XLS that was only for Exchange 2000 (see the link below)
http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/techinfo/planning/2000/Exch_Calc.xls
- Can you elaborate how the Storage Groups and the Information Stores population is done That is what assumptions it uses, things like:
- What is the maximum size of the IS that the Planner assumes
- Maximum number of mailboxes per IS that the Planner allocates
- In an Exchange server that is a Mailbox and Public Folders (that has 3 SG allocated for Mailboxes and 4th SG allocated to the PF), does the tool fully populates the 3 SGs for Mailboxes and allocates the 4th SG for PF Does it also fully poplulate the PF SG's ISs
- What is the Transaction Log size that the tool uses for each SG
- How does the tool do in coexistence (Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2k/2k3 or Notes/GroupWise and Exchange)
Thanks!

Qs About the Planner v.2006

We have no hard limit, this is computed dynamically (see next question)
We dynamically compute an upper limit on the number of mailboxes based on the paged-pool memory usage of Exchange 2003. Specifically, the number of mailboxes multiplied by the number of security groups multiplied by the number of connections opened by a client (which depends on the client type) cannot exceed a certain number. With the default settings, you can simulate several thousand mailboxes on a server. If you exceed this, SCCP will display a warning message and tell you how to fix the problem (by decreasing the number of security groups, or the number of client connections).
For more about paged-pool memory usage in Exchange 2003, see these articles on the Exchange blog:
There’s no direct modeling of population of the four individual storage groups – instead we account for the aggregate size of all of them. You should follow Exchange best practices for populating these groups.
We currently use a multiplier of 10% of the overall SG size, which is in turn 1.5x the sum of the mailbox sizes, to account for indices and deleted items.lokiprime
Hi Jasadi - The spreadsheet you link to is for Exchange 2000, whereas SCCP 2006 is modeling Exchange 2003. So we're not really replacing the spreadsheet.
Some of your other questions are out of the scope of SCCP 2006. For example, we don't model public folders, and we don't account for coexistence scenarios. You can find more information about our limits and assumptions in the Users Guide, under "Exchange Server 2003 Capacity Planner Application Model". Is the information there sufficient to answer your questions

Hi Jonathan and thanks. You answered some of my questions by missed on a few. Hope to get reply for these too.
I have the following if you could comment
