WDS web search results in Firefox

I'm having trouble getting WDS to provide web search results in Firefox. I understood this function was simply supposed to load up my default browser (firefox) and pass it " example query". This should go to my default search page and list results for "example query". However, I'm taken to the page "file:///C:/ %20example%20query" instead. If I type the string " query" into the location bar in FF directly I get the search results page as expected.

Any ideas I realise this could just as well be an issue with Firefox as WDS.

I have Windows Desktop Search Enterprise version 2.6 (without MSN toolbar), and Firefox 1.5.0.1.

The behavour of the web button isn't quite what I expect. As I use Firefox I've never seen that button working, but this is how I expect it should work:

In the search panel that pops up, I enter a term, I click web. I would expect the top 10 results from MSN Search to appear in that panel, not bring me off to the web browser. (Naturally it would be nice if the search provider could be customised).

THEN when I click a link from the panel will it open the link in my browser of choice.

upgrading to FF 2.x should solve this problem. This version supports the command line syntax WDS uses.

OK, so I think this *is* a Firefox problem as the same behaviour applies from the command line: running "firefox searchterm" takes me to a list of files on my machine even though entering searchterm in the browser's location bar gets me what I want.

I suppose I'll need to find a solution from Mozilla, unless there's some way I can modify the command used by WDS for web searches Anyone

    Hi Ed,

This appears to be the result of a change in Firefox 1.5. I'm not sure why their command line syntax changed. You may want to submit a bug/suggestion to Mozilla for this issue.

I used to experience the same problem, so I stopped using WDS for Web searches altogether. It appears now that this problem has been resolved with Firefox 2.0.
