I can use the sizer tool to configure the servers and bandwidth. Right now I am trying to find out what my options are to monitor between 50000 and 150000 servers in 50 locations, each with their own MG's and I hoped the tool would help me out with that.
I understand that right now this might not be something that we really need for most customers, but when MOM really kicks in and becomes an enterprise monitoring tool, multi tiering will be an everyday use.
While right now the support matix calls for a 10 to 1 tier ratio, we could use the tool to model my the dataflow and design the top-tiers by capacity and not an arbitrary 10 MG limit.
Since I am MS internal, if you need to contact me, I am in the GAL
How important is it to you for future versions to model multi-tiered environments (And if you say "very", could we contact you offline to get some more information )
I think it's important since MOM is getting increased acceptance in larger environments. However, I would not consider it as very important to have a graphical representation of a multi-tiered architecture within the GUI. Anyway, for me the GUI representation is more a "nice to have". The primary output I'm interested in are suggested hardware configurations and simulation.
From a MOM perspective I would find it more important to integrate all the features from the MOM 2005 Sizer Tool into SSCP, especially database size estimations. I would suppose in the long run you do not want to maintain to different tools for the same purpose anyway.

Hi Andy - we thought about it for v1, but it didn't make the cut. Here's my thinking on the pros and cons:
Pro: It would be a great demo. I'm not aware of any other tools that can easily model multi-tiered environments.
Con: It might require significant UI coding effort, since we'd probably have to add a "top-level" view that showed the tiers.
Con: We believe that relatively few customers have multi-tiered environments. Note: this is a belief, not a hard fact :)
We can definitely revisit this decision for future versions. And we might also put together some guidance on how to use the current version to model multi-tiered environments, using e.g. our export-to-Excel functionality. So, I'd like to ask two questions to you, and to anyone else interested in this topic:

How useful would it be for us to publish some guidance on how to use the current version to model multi-tiered environments
