WDS3 and Outlook2007 Beta2 German Problem

Hello

I installed Office2007 Beta2 German on a German WinXP Pro system. We work in a domain and ExchangeServer. The Quicksearch and the advanced search in Outloom doesn’t find anything with WDS3. When i remove WDS3 and install the actally WDS the search function works fine, but i get a message in Outlook to update the WDS to WDS3 Beta. Reinstall of Office2007 or WDS doesnt help anything.

Anyone a Idea

WDS3 and Outlook2007 Beta2 German Problem

    Hi Paul

Thanks for your help. This problem i dont have ob any machine. My desktop doesn't have the Problem. But i read in some Google Diskussions that more users have this problem. (i hope it’s ok when i post this link)

    http://groups.google.de/group/microsoft.public.outlook.general/browse_thread/thread/568a142d3615baa8/1d6926fac57e191b%231d6926fac57e191b

    and this link

    http://www.slipstick.com/emo/2006/up060525.htm#search

Remember if i uninstall the WDS3 and install the 2.x the search works fine (only the popup to upgrade to the new WDS appears and must be disabled under Options) and i have the search toolbar under the Taskbar which i don’t have if i install the WDS3. Why is this

Perhaps this helps you to find a solution cause the install of the 2.x is a workaround for the search function but not a solution for the Problem :(

    thanks & regards

    hi all

I have the same problem. Although it does index it indexes only very slowly. I've been running it for days and only have about 7'000 indexed items (from about 70'000) on the 2.65 engine.

    regards

    Hello Hans-Georg,

I've been playing with this for a little while to see if I can nail down the problem. At this point, I have one more thought. Are you sure you downloaded the German version of the WDS 3.0 beta In order to get the German version of the program you have to go to the download page, select "German" in the language dropdown and then click the "Change Language" button. If you don't click on the "Change Language" button it looks like you get the English language version of WDS by default. If you go to the download page, select "German," and click "Change Language" you should note that the "German" you selected in the drop down box changes to "Deutsche." You might try removing your current 3.0 WDS beta and installing the German version of the same product.

As for why you don't see the deskbar with the 3.0 beta, there is no user interface (UI) for the 3.0 beta. As a result, you lose the deskbar functionality and the WDS icon (magnifying glass) no longer shows in the system tray. You do, however, gain "quick search" in the Outlook 2007 beta. A new version of the 3.0 beta is due out sometime in the future and it will include a full user interface. Until then, the 3.0 beta will not provide near the functionality of the 2.6.5 release.

    Hi Paul

I actually use a swiss german keyboard configuration. however i did install the english WDS engine on a german xp after the german engine didn't index at all. I did stop anything that would interfere with the indexing (virus scans, defragmenting etc.). right now the indexing seems to have stopped again at 27'000 indexed items. and that doesn't nearly bring up the e-mails and documents i'm looking for in outlook.

Is there a way of giving the indexing a priority

    Well,

It seems as if this is causing issues for at least a couple of people. I am building a machine with German XP pro, German Office XP, and German WDS 2.6.

I'll then be upgrading to German Office 2007 beta followed by the German WDS 3.0 beta. Hopefully these repro steps will yield some results. If so, I'm going to bet that the problem is the same between the French and German versions. I'll be posting back with what I find.

    HGChrist,

I just wanted to know that I'm looking into this issue for you. I'm going to see if I can replicate it on my end (which could be fun given my lack of German skills). I will keep you posted.

    Frank -

It sounds like your problem is slightly different from those noted above. There are several things that can cause your indexing to run slowly. 1) if you are using your computer frequently the indexing service will "back off" allowing you to use your computer without affecting performance 2) if there are other applications running on your PC they may be causing WDS to back off as noted above.

You can address this by shutting down extra applications and leaving your computer alone overnight. When you do this make sure you check task manager and shut down any extra processes that may be running in the background (i.e. virus and spyware sweeps).

HG - Could you please let me know if you are using an English or a German keyboard configuration In repro, I found some differences between the two (I had much more success with a German keyboard than an English keyboard).

    Hello again HGChrist,

I've been unable to replicate the problem that you are having. Here are a couple of trouble-shooting tips you might try:

    1. Make sure you give WDS enough time to build an index. After your Outlook and WDS upgrades, WDS will be working on building the index. Because of this, you might not be able to find items for which you are searching for several hours.

    2. If you are trying to search .pst files, make sure those files are loaded in Outlook. WDS will not search .pst files that have not been loaded in Outlook.

    3. WDS will only index your default Outlook profile. Make sure the items you are searching for are in your default Outlook profile.

    4. Take note whether the items for which you are searching are in your inbox. If they are not, try searching for items in your inbox. If you are able to find items in your inbox, but not in other folders let me know. I can let you know how to change the 3.0 settings so that you can search additional Outlook folders.

I just wanted to provide an update to this thread. We've been able to reproduce this issue on a customer's machine and currently have a bug filed to address the problem. I'll be posting a "sticky" in this forum once a fix is available.

Thank you all for bringing this to our attention.
