I have a question concerning the exported reports, specifically the Device Utilizations by Role. In my scenario, I have separated the Management Servers from the Database roles.
The column "Role Name" in the report is self explanitory, however, the Local connection (LAN) device type has several connections. Specifically:
- MOM Agent
- MOM Database Server
- MOM Management Server
Based on this, what is the MOM Agent role Is this the remote agents Also, what is the MOM Management Server connection Is that too itself, or other Management Servers Similarily, the MOM Database server has a LAN connection to the MOM Database role. What does this mean

Stathis,
That's what I needed to know!
Thanks very much for this.

Dave great question.
Granted this is a confusing report.
The goal of the network related rows in the "Device utilization by role" report is to help you analyze the network traffic. Say you have a single MOM management server, Server 1. The server sends and receives data from the network. The network incoming traffic might be coming from either managed servers (i.e. MOM agent role) or from the MOM database server. You will see two entries in the report, one for incoming traffic from agents and one for the database. To quickly check that this correct you can add the incoming utilization from agents and the database and compare it with the overall read utilization shown in the “Device Utilizations” worksheet for the same device (i.e. Server 1 to LAN).
OK here is the catch. If the role name is the same as the server role (i.e. management server in this example) it translates that the traffic is outbound, i.e. what this server sends towards the network to the various other servers. You can check that this is the same number as the write utilization in the “Device Utilization” column for the same device. We are aware about this usability issue and trying to address it in our next release.
Thank you for your question.
